Unique Use of Screen Aids Greater Manchester Police
20 August 2009
The Manchester CityScreen was recently used to launch the police appeal for information concerning a murder suspect.
Widely featured in both television and internet news reports, this was the first ever use for such a purpose in the UK.
The CityScreen is firmly established within Piccadilly Gardens and Forrest have worked closely with Greater Manchester Police on previous campaigns, so it was a natural progression to help with this task.

Detective Superintendent Paul Rumney, who is leading the investigation, said "Using the big screen in Piccadilly Gardens was key to drawing the media's attention to our appeal to trace Moses Mathias. It attracted national publicity, which is what we needed, because the suspect could be anywhere in the country. I cannot think of another force which has run a Wanted appeal for a suspect who is also a juvenile. It is a bold move and Wanted appeals are never done lightly. In this case, even more care was taken because of the suspect's age. Officers had been trying to trace him through a range of means and it took lengthy consultations with the Crown Prosecution Service and other agencies before we took the step of issuing posters, running a media appeal and using the electronic billboard in the way we did."
