Forrest Goes Green
17 February 2011

Forrest Developments as part-investor and Project Manager, have successfully commissioned our first run-of-river hydro scheme at Keltneyburn near Aberfeldy.

The hydro scheme has a maximum power output of 2MW producing in the region of 6,000MWhrs per annum.  The intake and weir structure, located on the Alt Mor tributary, is the abstraction point connecting to the 800mm diameter underground pipeline.  The pipeline runs for approximately 5.5km underground, dropping over 250m from abstraction point to the outfall at the confluence of the Keltney Burn and River Lyon where excess water from the pipeline and turbine flow is returned.

Power is generated by two 1MW rated pelton-type turbines which, in turn, feed generators and supply electricity via a transformer and 33Kv line to the grid connection point.

Forrest are currently reviewing further hydro scheme locations throughout Scotland.
