New Retail Park for King Street
12 December 2002
A detailed planning application to provide an upgraded retail and commercial development on the site of First Plc’s former HQ at King Street Aberdeen has been lodged with the City Council.
The joint application, lodged in the names of First and Glasgow based Forrest Developments, proposes to replace the existing depot and offices. In their place will be 100,000 sq ft of non-food retail space, a 15,000 sq ft neighbourhood convenience store and 444 parking spaces. The main unit of the proposed development, comprising 60,000 sq ft of space, has the backing of Homebase who are looking to provide a new concept store.
A spokesman for First said:“The new retail units will closely mirror the location of the existing tram sheds and workshops. As a result the appearance of the site will be largely unchanged and its visual impact will be minimal” Forrest Developments were established just over a year ago and have quickly become one of the fastest growing developers in Scotland being involved in several major projects around the country. Director, Donald Stewart said:“ First are one of Scotland’s leading companies and we are delighted to be working with them on an exciting series of developments that will bring new jobs into Aberdeen.”
